MAINTAINING POROSITY AND ACTIVITIES THROUGH URBAN FURNITURE

Inventory of Proposed Urban Components

Chinatown or Kreta Ayer have always been a thriving cultural and commercial district. Both the main streets and the back alleys are highly visible to the public. Therefore, the informal nature of the streetscapes presents unique conditions and enhancement challenges. The core of our strategy for re-informalizing the area consists of the implementation of management and spatial reactivation, redesign, and optimization strategies.  However, as a strategy for informalization, street components are implemented to stimulate activity while concurrently preserving the street's extant programs. Individually, These components are predominantly malleable and generic. When combined, the streets are intended to accommodate a variety of circumstances within the historic urban district.

The categorization of these elements encompasses numerous themes, including Kiosks, Tables, Landscapes, Services, and Plays. The inventory provides a listing of instruments for various interventions. By applying components of these 6 categories to the site, we believe that it will encourage visitors to explore various self-curated activities, thereby heightening the chance of organic interaction amongst the stakeholders and the historic urban area. The following scenarios will explore the various attempts to encourage the gradual increment of spatial informality and porosity of the area through the arrangement of the components
